BlueCat Screenplay
2027 BlueCat Screenplay Competition
The BlueCat Screenplay Competition is one of the most respected screenplay competitions in the world. Founded in 1998 by award-winning screenwriter Gordy Hoffman, BlueCat is built on a simple principle: every screenplay deserves a real read.
The Competition
What Is BlueCat?
When you submit to BlueCat, you don't just enter a contest — you receive a detailed written analysis of your script and scores across six craft categories, all included in your entry fee.
The BlueCat Difference
What Makes BlueCat Different?
Written Feedback on Every Script
Most competitions are black boxes. You pay, you wait, you get a yes or no. BlueCat is different. Every screenplay you submit receives a written analysis from a reader personally approved by our founder. This feedback covers your story, characters, dialogue, and craft — and it's designed to help you become a better writer, not just tell you whether you advanced.
Six-Category Scoring
Your script is scored across six categories: Story, Character, Dialogue, Description, Clarity, and Originality. Each is rated on a 1–10 scale, giving you a detailed picture of where your writing shines and where it can grow.
Revise & Resubmit
Most competitions give you one shot. BlueCat gives you another. After receiving your feedback, you can revise your screenplay and resubmit it for a fresh read — with new feedback and a new chance to advance. You can even request the same reader or choose a new one.
A Judge Who Writes
BlueCat is judged by Gordy Hoffman, a Sundance Award-winning screenwriter and WGA member who has taught at USC and UCLA. Gordy personally approves every reader and oversees the entire feedback process.
27 Years of Launching Careers
BlueCat alumni have signed with UTA, CAA, WME, and Verve. They've sold scripts to Paramount, Disney, Warner Bros., and Universal. They've won at Sundance, Berlin, and Tribeca. And it all started with submitting a screenplay.
For All Writers
Who Should Enter?
BlueCat welcomes screenwriters at every level. Whether you're finishing your first screenplay, polishing your fifth, or you've been writing for years and want professional eyes on your work — we want to read it. We accept feature screenplays (65–125 pages) and short scripts (1–29 pages). International writers are eligible and can compete for the Fellini Award.
